Every order carries a deadline: the time by which the trade has to settle. The deadline is part of the order, so both chains and both parties see the same one.

One chain decides, the other follows

Two chains can’t share a clock. ProofBridge gives the decision to one of them:
  • The ad chain (AdManager) is the leader. Its clock alone decides how a trade ends: settled, cancelled or ruled on.
  • The order chain (OrderPortal) is the follower. It has no clock of its own for endings. It acts on a proof of what the ad chain decided: a settled payout, a cancel or a forfeit.
This way the two chains can never decide differently about the same trade.

The route’s clocks

Each route sets four timings. They’re fixed for an order when it’s created and locked, so a later change never affects a trade in flight. The app sets an order’s deadline at twice the shortest window, so about 40 minutes on soak. An order’s window can never be longer than 7 days.

How the timeline plays out

  1. Before the deadline, the trade settles normally. The order chain stops accepting the co-signed payout one claim stagger before the deadline.
  2. At the deadline, anyone can start a cancel on the ad chain. That opens the cancel window.
  3. During the cancel window, a co-signed payout on the ad chain, or a proof that the trade settled, still ends the trade as settled. Either party can also file a dispute.
  4. After the window, the cancel completes. The Maker’s lock returns to the ad, and the Bridger’s deposit is refunded on the order chain. See Cancels and refunds.

When a payout was blocked

If a co-signed payout couldn’t go through, for example because the Maker halted settlement or the pinned key ended, the cancel waits a little longer. That extra time lets the Bridger present evidence that the trade should settle, so a Maker can’t block the payout and then cancel.

Pausing doesn’t move deadlines

A pause stops only new activity: new ads, funding, locks and orders. Every ending stays open, so pausing never stretches or shortens a window.
