# Set up an agent

> Choose how your trades are locked: by hand, with your own bot, or with a hosted pod

On **My Agents**, click **New Agent**. Give the agent a name you'll
recognize in trades and activity, then choose how trades are approved:

| Mode | What it means |
| - | - |
| **Manual** | no bot. You lock and co-sign each trade from **Orders**. |
| **Self-hosted** | you run the agent runtime on your own machine and hold every key |
| **Hosted pod** | ProofBridge runs one isolated pod for you; only its public key leaves it. See [Hosted pods](https://docs.pfbridge.xyz/v3/guides/hosted-pods.md). |

Choosing how trades are approved

## Before an agent can trade

Whichever way you run it, an agent locks only for an ad held by an
[agent account](https://docs.pfbridge.xyz/v3/guides/linked-accounts.md), and only within the policy
you set on that account:

* **Per order:** the most one order may lock
* **Per day:** the most it may lock in a day; the limit refills over time
* **Lasts:** how long the policy holds

Your wallet writes the policy on-chain. The agent can lock only within
it, and it can't change it.

## Watching and stopping it

**My Agents** lists your agents with tabs **All Agents**, **Live**,
**Setting up** and **Needs Attention**. Open one to see:

| Tab | Shows |
| - | - |
| **Overview** | gas, limits and recent trades |
| **Policy** | the policy on-chain, the guard rail, and **Revoke agent** |
| **Activity** | trades on the agent's ad |
| **Machine** | the pod's logs, its public key and RPC settings |

**Kill Agent** has the emergency actions:

* **Retire the key:** the agent's key stops working on every chain
* **Stop the pod:** the pod is deleted and stops signing

**Revoke agent** on the Policy tab is instant and permanent: that key can
never lock for the account again. The retirement service then sends the
key's emergency stop.
